Chapter 10 - The Science (Self-Evident Truth) of Sanctification – Exercise

Any discussion of diet is usually accompanied by one on exercise largely because diet and exercise are two aspects of human well being that tend to go hand in hand. Since we just looked at spiritual diet it only makes sense to follow that up with one on spiritual exercise. Just like the benefits of physical exercise are impaired if your diet is not good, the same holds true in the spiritual realm.

Heb. 5:14 reads “But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”

What exactly is exercise and what is its purpose? Exercise is defined as activity developing skill, knowledge or strength; Performance.

Though there are a variety of definitions for exercise that we can apply to the context of spirituality, it’s the principles of exercise that we want to focus on. So if we transfer the definition of physical exercise from the tangible into the spiritual, then spiritual exercise should develop our spiritual skill, knowledge, strength and our overall performance as believers.

Football players attend training camp, baseball players have spring training and basketball players have their preseason training regimens as well and these are professional athletes we’re talking about. If individuals who make their living at these various sports need to tune-up or re-train themselves prior to each season of doing what they’ve been doing most of their lives, how much more do we need to exercise and train, or better yet, allow God to exercise and train us in the knowledge of Himself and His principles? ...
